LinkedIn usage figures

Post by bappy8 »

2019 is almost here. What are the most important developments on the B2B platform? What can you expect from LinkedIn itself? In this article, we will explain the most important trends. We will also take a look at five new functionalities that you can expect. Grab this article if you want to be ready for 2019 as a marketing or communication professional, with your (social) plans!

Trend 1. Significant increase in LinkedIn usage
For us as LinkedIn trainers, this is of course incredibly cool to see: the use of LinkedIn is really increasing. According to reports in the corridors, it is also one of the most important objectives that Microsoft has given to its subsidiary: ensure that people experience the platform as valuable and invest more time in it. LinkedIn is therefore developing relevant(r) functionalities. More about that later.

The fact that people are using LinkedIn more was already slowly reflected in the NewCom research at the beginning of the year : the number of daily LinkedIn users in the Netherlands grew from 400,000 in 2017 to 500,000 in 2018. An increase of 25 percent!

Here you can add the side note that these figures are based on research questions instead of hard data. But… buy phone number list LinkedIn recently presented some figures too. And they speak volumes:

Globally, there has been a 60 percent increase in updates to the feed over the past 12 months.
The past year has seen a record number of messages sent on the platform.
A significant increase in page views over the past 12 months.
Significant growth in the number of members logging in monthly, which only confirms the trend observed by NewCom.
Regarding the last two points: specific figures are available, but unfortunately they cannot (yet) be shared publicly.

Trend 2. Growth in the number of LinkedIn members
The number of LinkedIn members is also growing rapidly. In the Netherlands, the number of users is still increasing, but with 7.9 million personal accounts, it seems that there is almost no room for improvement. That is not so strange. Depending on your calculation method, around 80 to 85 percent of the working population is now represented on LinkedIn. A great achievement!

Worldwide, the growth is much stronger. In October 2018, the platform already had 590 million members. This growth was mainly recorded in India (+ 6 million), the United States (+ 5 million), China (+ 3 million) and Brazil (+ 2 million) in the past six months. Also nice to know: in the United States, India, England and Brazil, most messages are sent via the platform.
