When Reading Has Become A Passion. And Why Should You Care?

Post by Mitu7898 »

First there was Harry Potter, the book that rekindled a passion for the written word. Then came Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, Twilight, and even The Walking Dead – all derived from great readings of books opened with cracks in their pages after at least a decade of illiterate, awkward silence.

As Neil Gaiman put it best :

“There were rumblings, a few years ago, that we were living in a post-literate world, where the ability to make sense of written words was somehow redundant, but those days are gone: words are more important than they used to be: we navigate the world with words, and as the world belgium business fax list slides by on the web, we have to follow along, to communicate and to understand what we’re reading. People who can’t understand each other can’t exchange ideas, can’t communicate, and translation software sometimes only goes so far.”

Digital content also played a role in making people more skilled and comfortable readers, although the material has come at rapid pace. We are now (at least most of us) with a cultured group of readers, which entrepreneurs are working to harness well.

These days everyone has an e-book to sell, but my interest is not in how people are making a profit from the written word; it is in how you as an entrepreneur can benefit from the increase in reading. As an entrepreneur, it is your obligation to be an educated mind. To understand the issues of the day, you must be able to connect the ideas and encourage your staff to do the same. Not having an entrepreneurial spirit does not make you an entrepreneur, it only makes you a corporate worker (who may own a business or two, but is not in it for anything more than the money).

An entrepreneur, on the other hand, tends to want to create something. This requires imagination – imagination fueled by reading.
