Ban the sale of luxury brands on Amazon? It is possible

Post by shakilhasan15 »

Can a company restrict the sale of its products on Amazon and online stores?
The answer is yes: Coty and other luxury brands have obtained a landmark ruling that says retailers can be stopped from selling their products on digital platforms like eBay, Amazon, and Aliexpress in order to protect their luxury image and positioning.

ban sales on amazon

The ruling by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) stems from a case brought in Germany involving German subsidiary Coty's and German Parfumerie Akzente, which has long sold Coty cosmetics at australia telegram phone number list prices on merchants such as Amazon. Essentially, this ruling, which is a landmark ruling across Europe, allows a supplier of luxury goods to ban its authorized distributors from selling such goods on a digital platform.

While on the one hand this can be considered a limit to competition , on the other it opens up new scenarios on the management of pricing and commercial strategy on Amazon for luxury manufacturers. Here is the link with the entire Amazon-Coty ruling. Behind the name of the company Coty (COTY.N) there are cosmetics brands such as Rimmel, Calvinklein, Clairol, Wella and others.

So, if you are rethinking your online and offline pricing policy 2018 (activities on which we support our customers), know that every European company today has the right to block the sales of luxury brands by small retailers who today use marketplaces forcing the price and putting at risk the exclusivity and the image of value of the brand.

Given Amazon’s dumping, I predict this ban will extend beyond luxury products . What do you think?
