How Bounce Rate Tells You If You've Done a Good Restyling

Post by shakilhasan15 »

After your site has undergone a graphic restyling, users who already know it may find themselves disoriented by the new environment and therefore change their destination and previous choices. In addition to expensive UX (usability) studies to understand what is happening, it is necessary to monitor the change in various analytical metrics, including the bounce rate : this post explains how to do it automatically from Google Analytics.

website restyling

When designing the migration plan, brazil telegram phone number list before the restyling, it is necessary to monitor the percentage and absolute trend of the traffic and rebound dimensions:

number of sessions
number of users
bounce rate
For example, let's focus on the bounce rate , which is the percentage of people who land on a site and leave without navigating to other pages or without converting.

Now that we know our metrics and any changes, let's set up email alerts that notify us when significant changes occur in the bounce rate during and after the change.

To set the Alert, we access Administration from the horizontal menu located above the page. Then we choose the Custom Alerts option (which we find in the View column by scrolling down to under Personal Tools and Resources ).

Here we set the name of the Alert, which reminds us of its content and then we consider only and exclusively All the data of the website , that is, the site that must be transferred.

The comparison period must be evaluated based on your historical data: if the graphic trend of the metric is constant over time, the comparison can take place on a daily basis; if instead the graph shows a fluctuating trend it is better to refer to broader time frames, such as the week or the month.
For example, we choose a comparison with the previous week and put a flag to send the alert email to the address of the site administrator and (optional) also to other email addresses.

Now let's set the Alert Conditions . In our case, let's focus on the traffic that comes from search engines, i.e. from Medium (located in the drop-down menu that opens under Acquisition, or typed manually), which corresponds exactly to Organic .

Finally, we set the alert that we want to receive when there is a percentage increase in the Bounce Rate. We will then have to select the following options:

Bounce Rate (in the drop-down menu under 'Sections')
% increases by more than
Numerical value in % (I would suggest starting to monitor the situation with an increase of 5%)
Compared to (Google Analytics offers comparison with the previous day, week or month).
Once the Alerts are set up we can check the information by selecting Reports in the horizontal menu bar and then Intelligence Events in the left sidebar.

In addition to the bounce rate alert, you can also set up an alert that warns you of a possible drop in organic traffic, the creation of which is suggested in the post on alerts to identify a Penalized Site : the combination of these two alerts, however, allows us to quickly identify the problem and remedy it. The basis of everything, however, lies in a good knowledge of Google Analytics .
