Generally speaking, the goal of affiliate tracking is to associate a purchase with a specific person, institution, or advertising campaign. Integrating with iDev Affiliate will also allow you to pay commissions on those purchases and automate the affiliate sign-up process. The 'affid' (and optionally, 'sid') parameters inform Member Mouse who is responsible for directing a buyer to your site.
If you're not paying commissions, and just want to track the success of your advertising or cross-promotion efforts, you don't need iDevAffiliate, and can simply decide on some unique values for these parameters in Member Mouse, and start using them on third-party sites or in your advertising.
